Hard-core breakthrough: Helping Ningxia coal mines successfully tackle the “tough bone” of F10 hard rock -KING KING picks demonstrate the core strength of coal mine hard rock mining

Customer pain points

A large energy group coal mine in Ningxia, China, encountered sandstone conditions during coal mining operations. The high quartz content and rock hardness of the formation reached F10, resulting in a sharp increase in the consumption of coal mining equipment picks.

According to statistics, under this working condition, the average coal mining consumption of this coal mine is 15 picks/cutters, and the mine’s monthly cost of picks exceeds 500,000 yuan. At the same time, due to frequent shutdowns to replace picks, the coal output rate has dropped significantly, seriously affecting the mine’s profits.

Solution

After receiving the customer’s request, in order to solve the customer’s pain points in a timely manner and better serve production, the KING KONG technical team went deep into the coal mine to conduct on-site working condition surveys and analysis. After a comprehensive analysis of the rock formation characteristics, coal mining machine equipment parameters and cutter failure forms, they proposed targeted solutions.

1. The shearer drum picks were completely replaced with 35 alloy ceramic hard rock series coal picks. Their unique cutter head geometry reduces cutting resistance and improves mining efficiency.
2. By utilizing independently developed special-strength steel and cemented carbide, and optimizing the alloy material, welding and heat treatment processes, and product appearance, the shearer’s cutting efficiency and pick life have been significantly improved.

Verify the results

To ensure the objectivity and accuracy of product testing, the mine organized strict on-site comparative tests. After replacing the KING KONG U170-35MC1, the coal mining machine worked continuously for four shifts under hard rock conditions, cutting a total of 8 times and consuming 32 picks. The test results showed that the KING KONG pick test data far exceeded customer expectations.

Results:
1. Cutting tool consumption was significantly reduced, with only 32 picks required to complete eight cuts. Average consumption dropped from 15 picks per cutter to 4, a 73.3% reduction. Inspection of the picks on the drum revealed uniform wear and tear, demonstrating normal wear with no abnormal failures. This further validates the superiority and reliability of KING KONG picks.

2. Downtime is significantly reduced. Due to the significant reduction in pick consumption, the downtime for pick replacement is shortened from 6 hours/day to 1.5 hours/day, shortening the downtime by 75%, and the overall coal output rate is increased by more than 50%.
